A Nation Of Shopkeepers

The British have been disparaged, notably by one Napoleon Bonaparte, as being “a nation of shopkeepers.” But it is really the U.S.A. that is truly a nation of shopkeepers – and, no doubt, shoppers. Just look at the comparison of retail space per capita:

US 46.6 square feet
UK 23.0 square feet
Canada 13.0 square feet
Australia 6.5 square feet
India 2.0 square feet
Mexico 1.5 square feet

We’d better be thinking about how to re-purpose the coming square miles of vacant retail space. Ball hockey, anyone?

I think the shelves/aisles would be nice for bumper bowling.
