Summer Vacation

Governor Brown’s solution to the California spending problem is to reduce state employees’ work week to 4 days. Great, everyone gets three day weekends. But they only get paid 5% less. Now there’s a deal I’d not need any time to think about. Unbelievable.

My solution would be to reduce any amount paid over $50K by 50%. Then anyone still paid over $100K, reduce the amount over $100K by another 50%. So $50K or less would still be $50K or less, $100K would be $75K, $200K would be $112.5K, and so forth except for an absolute cap of $500K (this would get the UC brass who are paid millions, for example, who would still be overpaid after the above procedure. If you don’t like it, go find a job in the private sector.

4 work days but 38 hours of total work, so a 5% pay cut is appropriate.,0,1532582.story

CA is Greece, but in a better situation because Obama will most likely want to bail out CA using US debt that can be borrowed at only 2% for a 10 Y note.

The question is – if we continue to not pass a budget for the next 4 years, does Obama have the authority to bail out CA? Once CA receives cash, I assume other states will want their take.

This sounds similar to Obama’s home borrowers’ debt relief program.

38 hours of work? Do you really think state employees will put in a 9 1/2 hour day?
