Party Of Me

If you want to know what is going to happen about taxes, budgets, debt limits and so forth in Washington, just remember that there is only one party. The party of me – keep my Congressional perquisites, add to my personal wealth – in short, what’s in it for me.

Your representative is doing whatever seems necessary for his or her own self-interest. He or she does not give a damn about economics, the country, you, me or anyone else. The only obvious exception may, interestingly enough, be President Obama. He clearly has a class warfare agenda that seems personal in nature. You can see it his sanctimonious preaching of redistribution, his “you didn’t build that” and his insistence on higher tax rates for high earners. Even in little things like $100 per flight fees for general aviation (while he and Michelle trundle around at our expense in multiple 747s). Today he was quoting Dickens to demonize the wealthy as Scrooges. As Dickens said of a self-righteous character: “Some people likened him to a direction- post, which is always telling the way to a place, and never goes there.”
