It seems the reason for the rapid rise in commodity prices is that what Bloomberg calls “the great Chinese ball of money” is moving out of stocks and bonds into commodity futures.

“These guys are going nuts,” Hong said. “Leverage exaggerates the move of the way up, but also on the way down – much like what margin financing did to stocks in 2015.”
