There was an article on zero hedge that featured an sorted list of the per capita GDP of European countries. I save it here because it was a bit of a shocker to me. Not only how poor Ukraine is (the point of the article) but who was rich. Luxembourg as #1, totally expected. Where the rich Swiss keep their money. Ireland as #2 – wow. I didn’t see that coming. More than twice the UK and nearly 50% higher than the US ($62K). Malta – that’s another think again. And by the way, look at Russia at #31. You would think that Vlad should have better things to do than to try to take over an even poorer country.

But in the rich countries not all people are rich.
In the poor countries not all people are poor.
True. But I’m still scratching my head how Russia can have a better Gini index (38) than USA (41) given the staggering concentration of wealth in a few oligarchs and the overall poverty. I guess the USA must have a much bigger group of second level wealthy, behind the Bezos, Gates, Buffett, etc., but still very rich. Ukraine, by the way, has a very low Gini index. Ukrainians are pretty much all poor.
